Mental Health Check-In

With Mental Health Awareness month in full swing, it’s a timely reminder that our mental health is crucial for our overall well-being. We all have minds that need to be cared for. And a good mental health care practice is for everyone, whether you are struggling with severe mental health challenges or trying to maintain your health in an uncertain and confusing world. It starts with being proactive. Let’s take this opportunity to recognize the importance of our mental well-being in the workplace and take proactive steps to improve it. In this article, Jovika Wiese, Global Well-Being & Resiliency Manager shares 8 simple tips for improving your mental well-being while at work. These tips will not only boost your productivity, but also bring fulfilment in your career.

Try to Minimize Negative Self-Talk

The power of positive thinking is remarkable. An optimistic mindset affects many areas of your health and well-being, it also plays a key part in successful stress management. Are negative emotions holding you back? Aim to keep your thoughts in the present and try to not overthink what might have happened in the past and work on a positive outlook on the future.

Value Yourself and Practice Self-Gratitude

Embrace yourself and value who you have become. Don’t look for external factors to build your self-esteem, but search for them within. Treat yourself with kindness and grace. Even if some of your attempts haven’t been as successful as you imagined, don’t be harsh on yourself. There is much value in having tried and all attempts are learning opportunities. You will prevail and succeed eventually. And who knows? You might find the journey more exciting than reaching the goal.

Prioritize Your Physical Health

Your physical and mental health are interlinked, both being equally important. Taking care of your physical health can improve your mental health. Make sure you build healthy eating habits, drink plenty of water, exercise (even if it’s just a quick morning stretch) and get enough sleep. Being in a robust physical shape will help you elevate your mood naturally.

Take Regular Breaks

No matter how busy it gets, each day take time for yourself. This will be the time when you cool off from negative energy. Find a quiet place where you won’t be distracted and quiet your mind. Try meditation. Any relaxation exercise can improve your mental health and outlook on life.

Find Your Strength

Remember that whatever works for one, doesn’t necessarily work for the other. We are all good at different things. Look at what you are good at and build on your skills. Discover what’s your best approach to problem solving, work on your strengths, and develop coping skills. Your strengths will shield you and make you more resilient to setbacks as well as boost your self-confidence.

Stay Connected

Surround yourself with people who are important and valuable to you. Build your network where you feel understood, supported, and appreciated. It is also helpful to have different types of connections. Make plans with friends and family, but also seek out activities where you meet new people out of your comfort zone.

Rethink Your Personal Values

Rethink your values and don’t focus only on big things. Be open to new opportunities the world has to offer and try to live every day with curiosity. Find out what adds value to your life and what drains your energy more than it adds. What if your daily decisions would reflect your personal values? Doesn´t that sound like something you would like to achieve?

Don’t Be Afraid to Speak Up

Don’t let yourself think it’s all about you. The best approach to improving your mental health is by acknowledging that you aren’t alone. Seek out for help if things get too overwhelming and remember it’s a sign of strength, not a weakness.

At Majorel, we know the importance of speaking up. We have a specifically designed platform, where our team members can voice their concerns and speak up. Check it out here.

You can strengthen your mental health through own means and without any external help, but community and organizational support always light the burden. That’s why many companies focus on well-being activities to build resilience within their teams and to reduce social stigmas by underlining the importance of stress management, self-care, and mental health in the workplace. The Feel Good Program at Majorel serves this purpose to nurture a work environment that promotes engagement and inclusion by ensuring the physical, mental, and emotional welfare of our team members at Majorel.
